Flight of the Living Dead

All hail the b-movie!  Who doesn’t enjoy the no-budget charm of z-list acting talent and a high concept?  This straight-to-DVD offering is basically the most blatant genre rip-off I have seen in a long time.  The pitch must have gone somewhat like this: ‘Yo man, its like Snakes On A Plane meets Night Of The Living Dead’.

So, shady scientists smuggle aboard a plane an infecting woman in a frozen container.  Before long turbulence causes said container to malfunction, and soon a zombie virus is spreading through the plane and its a battle for survival between the remaining passengers and a bunch of ravenous, flesh eating zombies.  This is pure pop-corn fodder, with a likable cast and some good shocks, and for such a no name film some fairly decent make up effects.  I was gripped.  OK, it has some appalling dialogue, the editing is a bit all over the place (one minute the air hostesses are strapped into their seats, the next they’re wondering around…) and its as predictable as hell – but its fun, has some genuinely inventive moments, so check it out if you’re into this kind of stuff.

Verdict:  3 /5
