Why do I write this blog?

Over the years I have asked myself that question numerous times.  I know for a fact I write it because I love writing and giving my opinion and just having a voice to put out there about the things I am into.  However I do this not to make money (I don’t make any money from it) and therefore it’s purely a hobby I like to share with anyone who wants to read it.  I enjoy the creativity of writing reviews, of choosing my words and offering an opinion in a creative and potentially interesting way.

In subsequent years considering I have been writing this for almost ten years now, I can’t say I’ve enjoyed a great deal of popularity, and sometimes I do think about giving up and moving on.  But that would be a genuine shame.  I try not to get disheartened when I read other blogs that clearly have a lot more interest than mine and many more comments (I on average get 2-3 comments a week, and about 30-40 viewers a day and a handful of likes) … so yes 700+ subscribers not withstanding, not many folks are all that interested.  However did I start this blog to become popular?  Not really.  I did it for myself and I still get enjoyment out of writing reviews even if not many people are going to read them or take that much notice.  I do intend to keep the blog going however and really appreciate any interest or attention offered.  I suppose I just don’t expect all that much likes or comments, and after 9 years I’m OK with that (in a way).  Not to say I wouldn’t love it, but it’s clearly not going to happen.  I think some folks on here who write very similar topics have a dedicated core audience of still-active users (I doubt many of my subscribers are even around any more) who either know the writer or have been more into his or her blog for a long time, and that’s an audience I have never been or will never be a part of.  So why do I write if hardly anyone reads it?  Again for myself and for the enjoyment of writing.  Those that do stop by, thank you and I love you all.  Those that don’t click any further than seeing me on a feed, that’s your choice and happy on your way you go.

I have a number of reviews, gaming opinions and other ramblings planned for the weeks ahead, so do come and take a look and if you choose not to, then no worries.  I’ll still be here regardless, in my little corner of the web … doing my thing.

A small update

Posts are a bit slow at the moment.  Life gets in the way and all that shizzle.  I have had a bit of personal stuff going on that has proved rather stressful and combined with work being particularly busy too, this blog hasn’t been top of my priorities.  That’s not to say I wont be posting plenty in the coming weeks, with some gaming on the agenda to get my hands on such as Sunset Overdrive and possibly The Evil Within.  Also I need to get around to that Studio Ghibli movie The Wind Rises at some stage.

Other than that I am watching some TV.  Just started Gotham which has reached the UK shores a bit later than my American neighbours, and first impressions?  Cool but felt very ‘nineties’ in style.  I intend to stick with it though.  I am also watching Orange Is The New Black, currently going through season 2 and loving it.  Other than that I am on the final season of Boardwalk Empire, a show I think has begun to lose it’s way somewhat and I’m not surprised this is the final season.

Well that’s all from me for now.

Ramblings…

Well it’s a bit of a lazy Sunday so thought I’d write something on here.  This past year has had a few ups and downs … personally I’ve gone through some depression.  However I think I have overcome most of it, and looking to a future where such a thing isn’t at the forefront of my thoughts (at least not as much).  I’m concentrating on more positive things, like friends, family and my job, hobbies etc … things that make me happy.  I suppose it’s all about appreciating the good things in life, rather than focusing on what’s missing from it.

In the coming months, as far as this blog is concerned, I have some stuff to look forward to.  On the gaming front Destiny is just around the corner … preloaded it on my Xbox One last week, and well it’s been agonizing waiting for it to unlock but it will finally be available on Tuesday.  I’ll report back on this long awaited, much anticipated game next week.  Also got Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare pre-ordered, along with Sunset Overdrive.  Both look amazing.

The Netflix challenge has hit the skids a bit, as I was feeling like it was less about movies I wanted to see, and more about doing the challenge, so not sure if I will go back to it.  An interesting ‘experiment’ none the less.    Some movie’s on the horizon include reviews of the Blu-ray release of Spirited Away, one of my favourite Studio Ghibli movies … add to that Hayao Myazaki’s swansong The Wind Rises.  I also have the 15th Anniversary of The Green Mile pre-ordered, so will finally give my opinion on this much loved prison drama.

Towards the end of the year, it’s possible I may own a PS4.  Can see that happening.

In other news:  I have been closely following the news on my favourite band Garbage and looking forward to what they have planned for next year.  They intend to re-release their debut album to mark it’s 20th anniversary, as well as their sixth studio album that they have been working on for the past year or so.  Also a tour has been hinted at and if they make it back to the UK I have, to name one of their best tunes, made a ‘vow’ to see them this time around.  Exciting times to be into this band who seem to really be in their element these days.

Well enough from me for the time being.  Please remember to check back often for movie reviews and general ramblings and I’ll make sure to keep the content coming.  I appreciate all my visitors and subscribers, those that press ‘like’ or offer their comments etc.  Makes this little blog really mean a lot to me.

shine-on-300-follows1

Hey readers and even people who just stumble by this blog on their way to another one … I just reached 300 followers.  That makes me so happy!!  I love writing and I love sharing my opinion … so I’m sure you can imagine when there are people out there that actually take the time to read anything I post, it adds so much to my hobby I can hardly put it into words.  Thank you again to all those that have stuck with me since 2007 (jeez…) and those that only pass by once in a while, or to those new readers who may like something I’ve wrote.  You’re all valued and appreciated and I hope sincerely you stop by often.  I will continue to post reviews and opinions and look forward to your comments, likes and general interest.

Thanks again.

The Netflix Alphabet Challenge

I’ve come up with an interesting idea.  Yes, the idea is to watch a movie on Netflix, and review it following day or so.  The restriction being I must only review one movie from each letter of the alphabet, until all 26 movies are done.  Other than this said movie can be from any year, any genre etc, although must be something that hasn’t been previously reviewed on here..  It’s going to take me a while but I am challenging myself … also it’s a good way to make more of my Netflix subscription and post more content.

Subsequent reviews of this challenge will have ‘Netflix Alphabet Challenge’ on the review itself.
