I think its common knowledge by now that all that Disney animation studio Pixar touch turns to gold (with the possibly exception of critical flop, Cars), and as a big fan of Monsters Inc, Toy Story etc…this was a no brainer. A rat with rather unusual culinary abilities, becomes the inspiration for a bumbling chef who gets a job at a down on its luck French restaurant. Now how this happens, is a little complicated, but said rat helps the naive chef become the talk of the town, and is soon returning a once big-name restaurant to former glory.
Now that may not sound like the stuff of great movies, but as ever with Pixar, the secret is in the tasting, and this recipe here is chock-full of tasty ingredients; packed with action, comedy by the bucket-load and some of the finest animation I’ve ever seen. Now as a fan of Pixar’s other works, I’m not sure if its quite as engaging or imaginative as Toy Story & Monsters Inc, but it still whizzes along at a cracking pace, has some brilliant moments and a great ending – so overall, there’s very little to knock.
Verdict: 4 /5
